Biking with Mack, aka "The Natural"

Mack and I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time on the trails recently...we talk politics, discuss teen angst, then shred the downhills. These first two are from the newer Calabasas Trail near Malibu Creek Park.

This next set is from Sycamore Canyon, near Pt Mugu. We started off with a 1200+ feet climb from the Pacific, up into the Santa Monicas. Then, we dropped down the Wood Canyon Vista trail: a sweet, twisty single track, decked with berms and jumps. It was very similar to riding a roller coaster.

Staring at the Ocean. We would get some great views of the Pacific as we climbed to the top.

The earth movers had ripped up the trails, making the climb a little looser and more challenging. Mack in the foreground, the beach where we started is in the background(upper left).

Mack celebrated the climb by declaring the mountain behind him as his.

And finally, the top. Mack was pretty excited to make it all the way up. We then turned the bikes down the twisty single-track trail, and what took us 1 hour to climb up, took us 10 minutes to get down. Great ride.

Next we did a ride in Cheseboro, with another big climb, up to China Flat. This time we ended up next to Simi Peak(elev. 2450 ft.). Here is a picture of the fireroad climb.

And a couple of Mack climbing that same fireroad.

Mack and me at the top. This ride started 20+ miles away from the house, but in this picture, our house is way down there in the background.
