Whale Watching In Santa Barbara(with strippers!)

One of the benefits of living in southern California is that pretty much anything you can imagine has a distinct possibility of happening. That's why I was not surprised to see a group of strippers, dressed in stripper attire(high heels and short skirts), board our whale watching boat, the Condor Express, right before we launched from Santa Barbara. At 10:00 AM. But I digress.

Here we are in the marina. We took a couple of doses of Dramamine, so we were all a little slow.

Our double-hulled boat, the Condor Express. Water-jet propelled for cetacean safety, it hit around 40 MPH.

Bo was very excited.

Mack's "Ultimate Coolness" seemed to get in his eyes here(or maybe it was the Sun). Incidentally, the homeless man in the background believed that the oil wells off the coast were not drilling for oil, but instead mining his thoughts out of his brain. We quickly moved on.

Bo, again, very excited. Zeke...drugged.

Mack is "King of the World!!!!"

Finally on our way. We passed Stearns Wharf on the left and left the Marina behind. Further out we passed by a fishing boat covered in seagulls. "Mine, mine, mine, mine."

Some Common Dolphins hitched rides on the bows on our way to Santa Cruz Island.

Zeke, The Handsome One.

As we arrived at Santa Cruz Island, we spotted multiple groups of Gray Whales. In total we saw 7-8 whales, thousands of Common Dolphins, a small group of Dall's Porpoises, and numerous seals and sea lions. Unfortunately, we did not get very close to the whales.

This is my best photo of "tail" from the trip. The subject was moody, and difficult to track.

"Hey Daddy, how did you get up there?"

On the return trip, we ate some snacks. Bo had a PB & J...extra messy style.

One of the wonderful side effects of Dramamine. The boys slept the whole way home.

OK. Now back to the strippers. Don't know why they were on the boat. Don't know why they chose to wear high heels, sun dresses, mini-skirts, and tube tops when the brochure clearly suggested flat shoes and multiple layers(it was cold in the wind) for a whale watching trip.

Here is what I do know.

Bo has a "Gift." Apparently, on the way back to Santa Barbara harbor, Bo and Zeke were chasing each other around the boat. Bo sprinted around a sharp corner and ran into one of the strippers, knocking her red wine all over the front of her dress. From what we heard, he apologized immediately. They thought he was so cute, they invited him to hang with them on the way back. He introduced himself, took pictures with them, got some digits....Zeke was jealous, Mack was jealous, hell, I was jealous.

The "Force" is strong in that one.

Half Pipe Action

Z, Bo and I headed over to Corriganville Park on the east end of Simi for "exploring by bike", and some cement pond wall-riding.
Good times.

Holidays 2009!

This is the closest thing we got to a Holiday photo. Happy Holidays!

Rob, Kristen, Kelcey, and Kyle joined us for a few days. We relaxed and drank for the most part. Here is Christmas morning.
Later we went to the park.

And the beach.

And some hiking and climbing.
